  1. - I teach Developmental Language Arts Through ESOL level 1 and Language Arts Through ESOL 7th grade.
    - I have mixed classes, but the majority of my students are in 7th grade.
    - Basically, I incorporate reading in all of my classes.
    - I teach vocabulary by using different types of charts, diagrams and a lot of practice.
    - All my classes are ESOL students, so I do a lot of differentiation activities based on their English language cognition; I also group them taking into consideration their interest and learning skills.

  2. -I teach: Reading, Language Arts, and Math.
    -I work with 7-9th graders.
-I incorporate reading in all of my lessons.
-I teach vocabulary by introducing new words before a lesson. I ask my students to say the word and then tell me what they think the word means. If they are right I ask them to give me synonyms. As a class we will also look up the word in a dictionary or on the internet. I do this so my students will learn how to use different resources.
-I work with my ESOL students based on their level and I build assignments around their levels and needs.

I teach Intensive Reading to 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

Reading is incorporated in every class every day through the use of Voyager, Silent Reading, Independent Reading, Reading Plus and Timed Reading.
Teaching Vocabulary to the students is implemented by reading a passage and reviewing the unknown words, breaking up the word to identify its meaning. Class discussion about the meaning, definition, synonyms and antonyms of the words is also used.

Not all my students are ESOL students. I have students work in pairs as well as small group work. During this time student’s work using audio, visuals, modeling, graphic organizers as well as the computer

I teach 7th grade math in an inclusion setting. Reading is across curriculum but when it comes to math, there isn’t that much to read other than when we are focusing on word problems. The rest of the time is just the directions. What I do with my students is that we read everything aloud. I have them read the word problems and all questions aloud. I like to use context clues to find meaning of words and definitions. I don’t have that many ESOL students this year but some of the strategies I like to use are cooperative group activities, think- pair- share, manipulative, and differentiated instruction

I am in an Elementary School. We service Prek-5 th grade. I am/was currently teaching and servicing in three inclusion classrooms.(GRADES 3,4,and 5). I co-teach and collaborate in Reading Language Arts and Math. I consult in Social Studies and Science. I incorporate reading in as much as I can, in all the core subjects.
Everything involves Reading! I teach vocabulary before and after a reading a selection. For example: When introducing a word, I must explain the root word, then the affixes; also through synonyms, antonyms, homophones, multiple meaning words, and finally word meanings from context, etc... I work with the ESOL population the same way as I would work with all students, especially struggling students. I infuse a lot of repetition, incorporate many visual, auditory and kinesthetic tactual activities. Also, having ESOL students work and pair up with non-esol students helps a lot. Have the Esol student read out loud, that way they hear themselves read. Then after the school day is over, encourage ESOL and non ESOL students to use school computer based programs like: Ticket to Read, FCAT Explorer and River Deep for review and extra practice.

  7. I teach Laguage Arts through ESOL 6th grade and Developmental Language Arts through ESOL 6th, 7th, 8th grades.
I incorporate reading in all of my classes every day.
I pre teach the vocabulary before the new reading materials are presented.
Since all of my classes are for ESOL students I do a lot of activities in class that are specially designed for this population. All the strategies used in class promote active cooperative learning so that all the students can interact in class withouth feeling any kind of pressure.

  8. 1. I teach grade Reading & Language Arts. I teach two classes; a team class and an incluson class.

    2. I teach 5th grade.

    3. Incorporating reading is't a problem since all I do is teach reading. However, in years past, when I taught Social Studies as well, incorporating reading was fun. Whatever the theme was in our reading book, I matched that with events/chapters in the social studies book so that the students understood the theme and recieved the theme in different ways. I also did the say thing with the comprehension skill of the week. I would incorporate the reading skill and use it with the social studies series so that the students would see that the skill can be used throughtout the day in any and every subject.

    4. Vocabulary is very important and fun to teach. At the beginning of each unit I introduce the vocabulary words with pictures and accompanying words. We do several activities throughout the week to maintain the words such as working with the suffixes/prefixes and base of the word, understanding synonyms and antonyms, completing vocabulary maps etc. I truely enjoy teaching vocabulary and I feel that it is extremely important.

    5. The strategies that I use throughtout the day are useful for both the ESE population I work with as well as for those ESOL students in my class. some of the strategies are, but not limited to....pictures and/or other types of visulas, hands-on materials, repetition & drill, peer tutoring, lots and lots of cooperative work, songs, read alouds and computer based assistance.

  9. 1. I teach a self-contained retention class. Therefore, I teach Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science & Social studies.

    2. I teach a group of 3rd grade tier-two and tier-three students as well as the 3rd grade resource and inclusion population.

    3. I incorporate reading during all subject areas. For example, students are no longer just expected to complete simple computation math problems now they are expected to also be able to read & understand a probelm before completing the math. I make it a point to incorporate the weekly reading skill in my science and social studies lessons. It is necessary for the children to realize that they can identify cause & effect, or compare and contrast and even identify the author's purpose outside of the reading class. Once this has been understood the skill has truely been taught.

    4. Through visuals, hands-on, repetition, and the use of context clues is how vocabulary is taught in my class. Additionally, vocabulary words and pictures are posted throughtout the classroom for each subject area including science & social studies.

    5. Since my class consists of students with the need for intense remediation, the skills I incorporate are useful for everyone including the ESE and ESOL population. Some of the strategies used throughout the day are the use of visuals and hands-on materials, the use of cooperative work and peer tutoring, the use of small group differentiated instruction as well as lots of repetion & drill.

  12. My situation is a little different since I am the Reading Coach for my school. I obviously deal with Reading as a subject area with Kindergarten through fifth grade teachers and students. My role is often to provide PD and Class Demonstration lessons on reading strategies and vocabulary instructions to my teachers. I belive that ELL strategies are just good teaching strategies that are effective with all students.

  13. I teach 6th grade computers and gifted 6th-8th.
I incorporate reading in each assignment, whether computer or gifted.
In respect to vocabulary I introduce it in computer at the beginning of each chapter. I have the students write the word and write the definitions, then I explain the meaning of each word. When I deal with my gifted class I introduce the vocabulary at the beginning of the story that we are reading and we review the vocabulary words in class as a group. At the end of the reading I give my students an assessment. I don't work with ESOL students in my class.

  16. I teach Sports & Entertainment Marketing at Miami Central Sr. High. I work with all grades 9-12. I incorporate reading as often as possible. At the beginning of a lesson I always cover the vocabulary words that the students might not know. If I come accross a word that could benefit the students within supplimental materials, I would use, and give the definition of the word. Spanish ESOL I normally get assistance from other Sanish speaking students. Haition Creol, I translate on my own. Either way ESOL students are involved in the learning process.

  22. • I teach AP Spanish, Spanish for Speakers and Non- Speakers.
    • I have mixed classes of 9-12th graders but mostly 11th and 12th graders.
    • I incorporate reading in all my classes. I select and use reading selections that are appropriate for their reading level.
    • I teach vocabulary using context clues. Students read the material aloud and I give them immediate feedback by correcting them in a very positive/ funny way. I model the pronunciation and students repeat it by rows and individually in a random order. I clearly enunciate the sounds and I emphasize the pronunciation of the words that the students find difficult.
    • I provide my ESOL students with extra time, if they need it to complete an assignment. I incorporate into the lesson: visuals, cooperative learning, repetition, and drills.

  25. - I taught Social Studies to 7th and 8th grade up until June.
    - Because SS requires a lot of reading and comprehension of history, it is done everyday with the students in a variety of ways.
    - I teach vocabulary explicitly through word meaning review before each section, the use of a word wall as an exit pass each month and vocabulary tests for each chapter.
    - ESOL students need this direct explicit teaching. They are required to state the word, tell the meaning, use it in a sentence or illustrate it. If it can be translated in their home language that is done however, if it has dual meaning, I try to avoid translations.
